Black Salt

Our Black Salt is a fantastic feed supplement for horses, supporting hydration, digestive health, and itchy skin conditions. Black salt is a Himalayan rock salt that can be simply added to your horse’s feed to obtain all the amazing benefits. Naturally aiding gut health, it contains trace minerals, such as iron, magnesium, and copper, which soothe bowel function, repetitive abdominal discomfort, and the digestive tract. Black salt is also known to support skin health by helping itchy skin conditions. Salt for horses and ponies is essential, as without it their muscles and nerves will not perform correctly, leading to digestive problems, lethargy, and performance deficits. It is especially important for competing horses that sweat a lot as it will help replenish their electrolytes and encourage them to stay hydrated. Black salt only becomes ‘black salt’ after being heated according to traditional ayurvedic methods, creating the amazing digestive health benefits. 

Our Black Salt is a great alternative to salt licks, for horses that do not use them, or best used alongside them to ensure they are getting the correct amount of salt in their diet, simply using the salt licks to self-regulate if they need more. 

Please note, due to this being a natural product, colour may vary. 

For an average 500kg horse, add approximately 2g (a pinch) of salt to their feed daily. Introduce gradually to avoid digestive upset. Salt will make your horse thirsty, encouraging proper hydration, so make sure they always have plenty of water available. Can be fed alongside our Himalayan Salt Licks to encourage your horse to self-regulate their salt intake if they need more.
